Ceramics Exhibition 'In Dialogue'

Description

Explore the directions and tendencies of Serbian ceramics from 1937 to present.

The Museum of Applied Arts warmly invites you to the grand opening of the exhibition 'In Dialogue', featuring artistic ceramics from the collections of the Museum of Applied Arts and the National Museum in Arandjelovac. This project is curated by senior curators Jelena Popovic and Tanja Vicentic.

Key individuals addressing the audience at the grand opening on Thursday, May 30, at 18:00, include:

Biljana Jotic, Director of MAPU Darko Pavlovic, Acting Director of the National Museum in Arandjelovac Dr. Simona Cupic, Full Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy Representative from the Ministry of Culture, who will officially open the exhibition.

The main idea is to showcase the major directions and tendencies in artistic ceramics, highlighting representative works from different categories: Elements of Tradition in Service of New Ideas, Nature Through Form and Material, Transformation from Objective to Abstract, and New Meanings.

The exhibition aims to demonstrate the transformation of artistic ceramics in Serbia during the 20th and early 21st centuries, illustrating how ceramics evolved from utilitarian objects to a part of the expanded field of visual arts.

Various aspects of affirmation and development of ceramics in this area were influenced by the museum practice of the Museum of Applied Arts, as well as by the World of Ceramics, symposiums of ceramic artists held within the Yugoslav Art Scene and the Sounds from Arandjelovac exhibitions from 1974 onwards.

Rarely exhibited works such as Ivan Tabakovic's panel 'Croatian Spring' from 1937 and pieces by foreign artists who participated in the 'World of Ceramics' symposium, leaving a lasting impact on Serbian artists, will be on display.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a bilingual catalog published by the Museum of Applied Arts, containing expert/authored texts by senior curators Jelena Popovic from the Museum of Applied Arts, Tanja Vicentic from the National Museum in Arandjelovac, and museum advisor Bojana Popovic.

Throughout the exhibition, the audience will have the opportunity to engage with the precious cultural heritage of the two museums through guided tours, lectures, and workshops, exploring the possibilities and creative potential of ceramics.

Visit the exhibition until June 25, 2024.
