Tuesday, September 10, 2024, is reserved for a concert titled "Music of English Salons," which will take place at 8:00 PM at the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Belgrade, as the fourth concert of the XIX Festival of Early Music. This concert offers a unique opportunity to experience the authentic sounds of 18th-century English salons, with performances on historical instruments and an authentic interpretation of the musical repertoire.

About the event This concert will feature exceptional artists known for their virtuosity and dedication to the early music tradition: mezzo-soprano Dragana Popović, traverso flutist Karolina Bäter, and fortepianist Dušan Toroman. The concert program includes works by Johann Christian Bach and Venanzio Rauzzini, who composed for the sophisticated ambiance of English salons and aristocratic homes in the second half of the 18th century.

Dragana Popović is known for her notable interpretations of roles from Rossini and Monteverdi operas. She will present herself through performances of Rauzzini's Italian songs, accompanied by traverso flute and early piano. Dragana is a distinguished artist with a rich career in opera and concerts, a regular participant in early music festivals in Serbia and abroad. Flautist Karolina Bäter specializes in performing on historical instruments. A recognized artist with an international reputation, she regularly performs with ensembles such as New Trinity Baroque, Holland Baroque, Belgrade Baroque, and others. Fortepianist Dušan Toroman, an interpreter of 18th and 19th-century keyboard literature on original instruments, will also perform. Dušan is a laureate of many international competitions and regularly performs as a soloist and ensemble member at concerts throughout Europe.

The concert program includes the Sonata for Keyboard and Flute in D major, Op. 16 No. 1, the Sonata for Keyboard in C minor, Op. 5 No. 6 by Johann Christian Bach, and a selection of Italian songs by Venanzio Rauzzini, such as "Quando sono presso a te" and "Languente e tenera Fille sedea." The audience will have the opportunity to enjoy a unique blend of vocal and instrumental music that evokes the atmosphere of 18th-century English salons.
