Exhibition "Confessions of Yugoslav Modernism"

Description

The works on paper from the Collection of the Gallery of the House of the Serbian Army consist of about 1,500 pieces of fine and applied arts and can be divided into four parts: Collection of paintings, Collection of works on paper, Collection of sculptures, and Collection of applied arts. Works on paper, after paintings, are the most numerous segment of the fund. The collection was formed based on the participation of artists in engaged exhibitions organized by the Gallery of the House of the Yugoslav People's Army, solo exhibitions, participation in art colonies, and military service. The works were created over a period of a century, so it could be said that the Collection spans almost the entire XX century. Thematically diverse, ranging from still lifes, portraits, exteriors, interiors without ideological background, to highly engaged works on the topic of the People's Liberation Struggle and war.

The exhibition features more than 40 pieces that make up works on paper in techniques of drawing, watercolor, pastel, gouache, tempera, and works executed in a combination of techniques. Among the protagonists of the exhibition are the most significant artists of the XX century in the Yugoslav territory – Ljubomir Ljuba Ivanovic, Sava Shumanovic, Stojan Celic, Predrag Pedja Milosavljevic, Mladen Srbinovic, Milo Milunovic, Gabriel Stupica, Nikola Martinoski, Zlatko Prica, and others.
