We are delighted to announce the concert titled "Alla Italiana - Italian Baroque Opera Arias and Concertos", which will take place on September 9, 2024, at 8:00 pm at the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Belgrade, as part of the third concert of the XIX Early Music Festival. This unique musical event is one of the highlights of the Festival and the XXIII Belgrade Baroque Academy, which takes place in the same week, bringing together some of the most outstanding artists in the field of baroque music.
About the Event The concert will feature mentors from the XXIII Belgrade Baroque Academy, experts in authentic interpretation of baroque music, who will immerse us in the world of Italian Baroque opera by performing the most thrilling baroque arias accompanied by a baroque orchestra on historical instruments. Sonia Prina, a world-renowned Italian prima donna and one of the leading interpreters of baroque music of our time, will take the stage. Her profound knowledge of the style and exceptional artistic expression bring a special richness and emotional power to Italian baroque arias and concertos. In addition to her, the concert will feature soprano Radoslava Vorgich and bass-baritone Sreten Manoylovich, who, as resident singers of the New Belgrade Opera, co-organizer of the concert, are already well-known to our audience. They studied at the Belgrade Baroque Academy and are now experts in authentic interpretation of baroque music themselves. The concert will also include instrumentalists Adrian Butterfield, a baroque violinist from the UK, recognized as one of the leading violinists of our time, Meila Tome, our baroque flutist of Brazilian origin, and our prominent baroque cellist Srdjan Stanic. The ensemble "New Trinity Baroque" will accompany all soloists, conducted from the harpsichord by its founder and artistic director, one of our leading conductors and experts in early music, Maestro Predrag Gosta.
The concert program "ALLA ITALIANA" includes arias and concertos from the rich heritage of Italian baroque composers. The program will feature hits such as the aria "Vo solcando un mar crudele" from Leonardo Vinci's opera "Artaserse", Vivaldi's "Sol da te mio dolce" from the opera "Orlando Furioso", "Morte col fiero aspetto" from Johann Adolf Hasse's opera "Mark Antony and Cleopatra", and other opera arias and music from Handel's operas "Tamerlano", "Siroe", "Amadigi", and many more. Among the instrumental pieces, Vivaldi's Concerto for Recorder and Orchestra "La Notte" and Giovanni Benedetti Platti's Concerto for Cello and Orchestra will be performed.
The concert will provide you with a unique opportunity to experience authentic interpretations of Italian baroque music in the atmosphere of the Cathedral, whose acoustic space enhances the listening experience of this music. The audience will enjoy virtuoso performances of arias, which delighted the Italian public in the 18th century, as well as brilliant instrumental works that convey the splendor and emotions of the baroque era. Do not miss the chance to be part of this exceptional musical event, where high art and acoustics create an unforgettable atmosphere.
