Exhibition 'Confessions of Yugoslav Modernism'

Description

Artworks on paper from the Collection of the Gallery of the House of the Serbian Army comprise approximately 1,500 pieces of visual and applied arts, which can be divided into four sections: Collection of paintings, Collection of works on paper, Collection of sculptures, and Collection of applied arts. Works on paper, after paintings, represent the largest segment of the fund. The collection was formed based on artists' participation in curated exhibitions organized by the Gallery of the House of the Yugoslav People's Army, solo exhibitions, participation in colonies, and military service. The works were created over a period of a century, so it can be said that the collection covers almost the entire 20th century. Thematically diverse, ranging from still lifes, portraits, exteriors, interiors without ideological background, to highly engaged works on the topic of the People's Liberation Struggle and war.

The exhibition features more than 40 pieces that make up works on paper in techniques of drawing, watercolors, pastels, gouache, tempera, and works done in a combined technique. Among the protagonists of the exhibition are the most significant 20th-century artists in the Yugoslav region - Ljubomir Ljuba Ivanović, Sava Šumanović, Stojan Ćelić, Predrag Peđa Milosavljević, Mladen Srbinović, Milo Milunović, Gabrijel Stupica, Nikola Martinoski, Zlatko Priče, and others.
