Description

ALEKSA JOVANOVIĆ, GREAT FEAST Gallery, from July 11 to 19, 2024. Exhibition opening on Thursday, July 11 at 7 p.m. The crisis is, according to contemporary definitions, a temporary loss of balance of personality that is always preceded by a change in external reality, engaging the level of an individual's adaptive powers that is beyond their everyday control. However, eating disorders can easily fall outside the framework of this simple definition. Through a series of multimedia works, Aleksa Jovanović not only problematizes eating disorders as clinical conditions but globally examines the human relationship with food in various contexts. Starting from the inability to achieve a nutritionally rich diet due to lack of money, self-confidence and self-control, feelings of guilt, social condemnation and discrimination, unwanted 'advice,' as well as the pervasive stigma around unconventional physical appearance, in this case, excess weight, Jovanović delves deep into the problematic and toxic nature of industries and the capitalist system. Aleksa Jovanović, born in 1999 in Petrovac na Mlavi. He graduated from the undergraduate academic studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade, majoring in painting in the class of Professor Simonida Rajčević. He is the recipient of the Faculty of Fine Arts award for evening nude in 2022. He has organized four solo exhibitions to date and has participated in numerous group exhibitions both nationally and internationally. He lives and works in Belgrade.
