ALEKSA JOVANOVIĆ, GRAND FEAST Gallery, from July 11 to 19, 2024. Exhibition opening on Thursday, July 11 at 7pm Crisis is, by contemporary definitions, a time-bound loss of balance in personality that is always preceded by a change in external reality, engaging the level of individual adaptive abilities beyond their daily control. However, eating disorders can easily fall outside the scope of this simple definition. Through a series of multimedia works, Aleksa Jovanović not only questions eating disorders as clinical conditions but globally examines the human relationship with food in different contexts. Starting from the inability to achieve a nutritious diet due to lack of money, self-confidence and self-control, feelings of guilt, social judgment and discrimination, unwanted 'advice', as well as the pervasive stigma surrounding unconventional physical appearance, in this case, excess weight, Jovanović delves deeply into the problematic and toxic nature of industries and the capitalist system. Aleksa Jovanović, born in 1999 in Petrovac na Mlavi. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade, specializing in painting under the guidance of Professor Simonida Rajčević. He received the Faculty of Fine Arts award for evening nude in 2022. He has organized four solo exhibitions to date and has participated in numerous group exhibitions both domestically and internationally. He lives and works in Belgrade.
