Fourth International Lithography Biennale

UK Parobrod, Belgrade
14 January 2025, Tuesday
9:00 – 21:00
Serbian

Description

The fourth International Lithography Biennale, successfully organized by the graphic artist Dr. Marko Kalezić, will officially open on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 8 p.m. at the Cultural Institution 'Parobrod'.

An international jury composed of Dr. Jugoslav Vlahović, Dr. Marija Pavlović, Jasmina Ćukić, Dr. Miran Šabić, and Dr. Marko Kalezić has selected works from 15 countries.

The fourth International Lithography Biennale confirms the vitality of this noble technique and positions the Serbian capital as a center of innovative graphic research, emphasizes art historian Marija Ristić in her critical review of this prestigious event.

Ristić reminds us that lithography, whose Greek name means 'writing on stone,' represents a unique connection between material and artistic expression. 'From the revolutionary experiments of Ingres, Delacroix, and the radical innovations of Toulouse-Lautrec, to contemporary explorations, this graphic technique demonstrates an extraordinary ability of reinvention while retaining its essential poetic nature – the ability to connect the power of minerals with the tenderness of ideas, transforming the cold surface of the stone into the warmth of human expression,' quotes Marija Ristić.

The laureates of this year's Biennale are:

First prize: Robert Janchovich (Slovakia) - for a fascinating visual narrative filled with enigmatic symbols;

Second prize: Marija Zvolinska (Poland) - for a complex urban vision with a layered play of light and shadow;

Third prize: Tsui Xiaohua (China) - for a 'lithographic meditation' on the transition from winter to spring.

Special commendations were awarded to Kalebzaman Shimal (Bangladesh), Sanja Žigić (Serbia), and Alexander Litkin (Russia) for their outstanding achievements in lithography.
