Exhibition 'City Space - Nature Space'

The exhibition 'City Space - Nature Space' presents the protected areas of Belgrade, selected samples of dendroflora, natural monuments and landscapes of exceptional qualities interpreted in the form of video works, photographs, and texts, as well as an eco-figure made from secondary raw materials on the theme of protected animal species inhabiting the space of our capital city.

The city and nature intertwine and overlap. Besides the ecological significance that is most often recognized, the natural values of special characteristics in the composition of the urban landscape are inseparable from urban, historical, and cultural toponyms. The development of urban space represents the conquest of natural space, while the preservation of natural resources is simultaneously a necessary condition for survival. The modern inhabitant of urban space forgets the original connection with the natural environment, the whole without which he himself loses his natural, human face, thereby neglecting one of the essential needs of human beings to be in a permanent communication and touch with nature.

Through the exhibition 'City Space - Nature Space,' the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia brings living monuments of Belgrade closer to the public through multiple layers of meanings, as witnesses of the past to which we are connected through history, memories, recollections, traditions, and myths. The exhibition aims to introduce the audience to the protected areas - green oases of Belgrade, selected samples of protected dendroflora, and animal species of Belgrade in the context of preservation, valorization, and interpretation of the natural heritage of urban space.
