Description
The Yugoslav Drama Theatre
Sophocles, one of the three classics of Greek tragedy (alongside Aeschylus and Euripides), wrote more than 130 works, of which only a few have been preserved: Ajax, Antigone, Oedipus the King, Electra, The Trachiniae, Philoctetes, Oedipus at Colonus. Of all these works, the most famous in ancient times was the tragedy Oedipus the King, which Aristotle in his work 'Poetics' cites as a perfect model of tragedy. Slovenian director Vito Taufer graduated in directing from the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana in 1985. Since then, he has directed over 100 dramatic performances, several operas, and one feature film. He has collaborated with numerous theaters throughout the former Yugoslavia and has received a large number of significant theater awards and recognitions, including several Borštnik Awards, several Lovro awards of the Sarajevo MESS, Sterija's Awards, 'Marul' Awards of the Days of Marul, Prešeren Awards... In 1996, Taufer received the Special Award of the Belgrade International Theatre Festival (BITEF) for the performance 'Silence Silence Silence' produced by the Slovenian Youth Theatre from Ljubljana. He has directed works by Gogol, Krleža, Ionesco, Shakespeare, Beckett, Sophocles, Chekhov...
