Claustrophobic Comedy was written over thirty years ago. The drama is extremely inspiring, distinctly Kovacevic, absurd and bitter tragicomedy of complex structure. The play intertwines three streams of events with a series of literary references. In it, life and theater collide, whereby the theater represents reality, which can be understood metaphorically – that the theater is smarter than life, and that in it can be found relief from accumulated troubles in reality. "I wrote Claustrophobic Comedy with the feeling that we live in a claustrophobia that is temporarily relieved by opening windows. Leaving that claustrophobic house of ours – homeland, land of "freedom" – usually to Italy, was a feeling of going on a weekend for prisoners sentenced to a life in a comfortable prison under the watchful eye of "one of the best European police forces."
