Exhibition 'Confessions of Yugoslav Modernism'

Description

Works on paper from the Collection of the Gallery of the House of the Serbian Army consist of around 1,500 pieces of fine and applied arts and can be divided into four parts: Collection of paintings, Collection of works on paper, Collection of sculptures, and Collection of applied arts. Works on paper, following paintings, are the most numerous segment of the fund. The collection was formed based on artists' participation in commissioned exhibitions organized by the Gallery of the House of the Yugoslav People's Army, solo exhibitions, participation in art colonies, and military service. The works were created over a period of a century, so it can be said that the Collection covers almost the entire 20th century. Thematically diverse, ranging from those with the theme of still life, portraits, exteriors, interiors without ideological background, to highly engaged works on the theme of the People's Liberation Struggle and war.

The exhibition features more than 40 works that make up the works on paper in drawing, watercolor, pastel, gouache, tempera techniques, and works executed in a combined technique. Among the protagonists of the exhibition are the most significant artists of the 20th century in the Yugoslav region – Ljubomir Ljuba Ivanović, Sava Šumanović, Stojan Ćelić, Predrag Peđa Milosavljević, Mladen Srbinović, Milo Milunović, Gabrijel Stupica, Nikola Martinoski, Zlatko Prica, and others.
