Sword Through Centuries at the Ethnographic Museum

The museum is pleased to announce the guest exhibition 'Sword', by author Aleksandar Stanković, a teacher, historian, and theorist of classical, sports, and stage fencing. It will be open to all fans and enthusiasts of this most elegant martial art, on Tuesday, June 18 at 8 pm. The exhibition includes a rich collection of over 50 swords through the centuries, from antiquity through the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, to the modern era. The exhibited items, mostly replicas, are enriched with authentic pieces of yataghans and sabers from the Weapons and Warrior Equipment Collection of the Museum, representing the sword culture of Serbia and the Balkans. During the exhibition, expert guided tours, workshops, and interactive lectures on the theory of the sword and the history of fencing in Serbia and Belgrade from the Middle Ages to the mid-20th century will be organized. We particularly announce a small prize competition 'Sword in Stone' for our youngest visitors. With a welcoming speech from the director of the Ethnographic Museum, Marko Krstić, the exhibition will be opened by the author Aleksandar Stanković and the curator of the Weapons and Warrior Equipment Collection of the Ethnographic Museum, Ivan Maksimović.
