Ballet Igor Moiseyev
Description
Sava Centar - Blue Hall
The National Ensemble of Igor Moiseyev, on tour in Belgrade, will present a special program "Games of the World" at Sava Centar on November 8 and 9, 2025. The State Academic Ensemble of Folk Dance named after Igor Moiseyev, known worldwide as "Ballet Igor Moiseyev", has been in existence since 1937. Its founder, the great 20th-century choreographer Igor Moiseyev, combined the skills of classical ballet with folklore and created a new genre in choreographic art that did not exist before. Moiseyev's innovation is unique, and his theater is incomparable. Ballet Igor Moiseyev is the world's first professional ensemble of folk dances. This ensemble served as a cultural bridge between the USSR/Russia and all continents of the world, for example: Finland (the ensemble's first foreign tour), Asia (China), Europe (Great Britain, France), Africa (Egypt), the United States, Canada, South America, Australia, New Zealand. Ballet Igor Moiseyev has toured in more than 70 countries, including the United States, France, Italy, with 10 to 15 tours in some of these countries. Ballet Igor Moiseyev acts as a true cultural diplomat: speaking an international language understood by every inhabitant of the planet – the language of dance. Ballet Igor Moiseyev is the world's first professional ensemble of folk dances to be awarded the title "Academic" (1967). It was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples (1987). It received the UNESCO Medal of the Five Continents for its contribution to the development and preservation of folk dances. It has been listed as a particularly valuable cultural heritage of the people of the Russian Federation by the decision of the President of Russia (2015). On February 10, 2022, Ballet Igor Moiseyev celebrated its 85th anniversary. The philosophy of Ballet Igor Moiseyev is a philosophy of precedence: always being ahead, discovering the new, being an example to others. Igor Moiseyev called the genre of scenic folk dance a plastic portrait of the people, silent poetry, visible song, choreographic chronicle of the nation. The repertoire of the State Academic Ensemble of Folk Dances Igor Moiseyev includes dances, choreographic paintings, and one-act ballets to the music of Russian symphonic composers: Mikhail Glinka, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Alexander Borodin, Modest Mussorgsky. The ensemble is the Theater of Folk Dance of Igor Moiseyev. At a concert by the Moiseyev Ensemble, every spectator feels as though they are in an art gallery: before their eyes passes a unique collection of rare canvases and paintings. These are not museum exhibits, but rather living ones – full of color, character, and strong emotions. Today, the ensemble is led by Elena Shcherbakova, a former soloist of the ensemble, People's Artist of Russia, and the student of Igor Moiseyev.
