Бэнкси — one of the most famous contemporary artists, yet almost nothing is known about him as a person. Even those who have never been interested in street art have most likely seen his works. In this Friday lecture we'll explore this together with art historian Anastasia Novak. We'll start with the history of graffiti in general and how street art became an independent artistic movement and a form of social expression.
Context and focus of the lecture
Бэнкси's works cannot be understood outside their context. The artist addresses environmental issues, social inequality and consumer culture; many of his pieces are responses to specific events. Art ceases to be just an image and becomes a reaction to its time.
