Boubacar “Badian” Diabate is a virtuoso guitarist from Mali, born into a family of griots—hereditary folk musicians and guardians of the oral tradition. He plays using traditional Malian techniques, combining technical virtuosity with the authenticity of the Mande tradition. The album Mande Guita Mande Guita (2021) has been highly praised by musicians and critics—the eight tracks feature traditional Malian songs reimagined through a blend of Mande folklore, jazz, and flamenco.
