Common Grounds: An Assembly for a Non-Extractivist Future

The Balkan Peninsula is rapidly becoming one of Europe’s key frontiers for lithium, boron, and other critical mineral resources. In Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, new mining projects are expanding, bringing serious environmental, social, and political consequences that threaten nature, local communities, and ways of life that have existed for generations.

In response to these processes, a powerful wave of civic resistance has emerged, connecting people across political, cultural, and ethnic divides. Common Grounds brings together activists, researchers, policymakers, and cultural workers to discuss the challenges of extractivism, the protection of the public interest, and possible pathways toward a more just and sustainable future.

The program is open to everyone, and simultaneous interpretation into English will be provided.
