BELA GARDA - Bulgakov / Babel - Dorcol National Theatre

JosephVisarionovichStalin watched the play 'Bela Garda' 20 times, then renamed it as 'Days of Turbina'. Mikhail Bulgakov, with the play originally set in Kyiv, had to rewrite it multiple times due to censorship. In December 1918, Kyiv is caught between the White Guards and the Red Army, then torn between nationalists and the unfortunate Eastward advance. Funds are invested to unite Slovenes - an old military exercise. In the streets, there are gunshots, brothers, disillusioned officers, war creeping into bedrooms. An unfaithful wife. A ship being fled upon. Betrayal and treachery. At a time when Krljed praises Gavrilo Princip. The vestige of Isaac Babel, he asks if I, a Slav, am dube without men who would make this continent empty for European banquets? Ask all hungry poets as the pale sun gleams in thin blood that is his essence. And sweet with mournful hatred, bitter contempt towards all misery and, humanity's torment. Narandjastos slides towards the sun like severed head. Horsemen with Death as a muse strain at the reins.
