Fourth International Biennial of Lithography

UK Parobrod, Belgrade
12 January 2025, Sunday
9:00 – 21:00
Serbian

Description

The Fourth International Biennial of Lithography, successfully organized by the graphic artist Dr. Marko Kalezić, will officially open on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 8 p.m. at the Cultural Institution 'Parobrod'.

The international jury composed of Dr. Jugoslav Vlahović, Dr. Marija Pavlović, Jasmina Cukić, Dr. Miran Šabić, and Dr. Marko Kalezić has selected works from 15 countries.

The Fourth International Biennial of Lithography confirms the vitality of this ancestral technique and positions the Serbian capital as a center of innovative graphic research, emphasized art historian Marija Ristić in her critical review of this prestigious event.

Ristić reminds us that lithography, whose Greek name means 'writing on stone,' represents a unique connection between material and artistic expression. 'From the revolutionary experiments of Engre, Delacroix, and the radical innovations of Toulouse-Lautrec, to contemporary explorations, this graphic technique demonstrates an extraordinary ability for reinvention, maintaining its essential poeticism - the ability to connect the strength of minerals with the tenderness of imagination, transforming the cold surface of stone into the warmth of human expression,' said Marija Ristić.

The laureates of this year's Biennial are:

First Prize: Robert Janchovich (Slovakia) - for a fascinating visual narrative filled with enigmatic symbols;

Second Prize: Marija Zvolinska (Poland) - for a complex urban vision with a layered play of light and shadow;

Third Prize: Tsui Xiaohua (China) - for a 'lithographic meditation' on the transition from winter to spring.

Special mentions were awarded to Kalezamana Şimal (Bangladesh), Sanja Žigić (Serbia), and Alexander Litkin (Russia) for their exceptional achievements in lithography.
