DANCEOKE (a coined term from dance and karaoke) is a participatory event similar to karaoke, except that in this case participants dance together following choreography from music videos, films, television and internet culture projected onto the wall, rather than following a single virtuosic person who “knows the steps.” One of the core ideas of danceoke is, so to speak, the democratization of dance.

By creating a temporary community through movement, Danceoke becomes a hybrid format that combines communal learning of choreography, pop culture, costume and collective authorship, inviting the audience to actively participate in creating a participatory performance.

No special dance skills are required to take part in Danceoke; everyone dances as energetically and elastically as they can. Danceoke is not a competition, nor is it a dance workshop.

Danceoke has strong references in queer and feminist practices that use dance, repetition, dressing up, questioning identity and pleasure as a political act. The shared joy of becoming someone else for one night — or perhaps becoming even more of who we already are.

In this edition, DANCEOKE vol. body mixtape. body replay, the space functions simultaneously as a dance floor, a wardrobe and a pop archive of dance; the audience participates in shaping the event even before it starts.

We invite you to send us video and choreography suggestions in advance for pieces you would like us to dance together, from which we will build a unique playlist that we shape collectively.

You might consider memorable video materials from editions and blocks such as: MTV 90s, YU pop, queer anthems and vogue, TikTok, films, “trash”, local club and mainstream pop music scenes…

At the event there will also be a clothes rail — a “costume bar” — with costumes, clothing and fashion accessories that you can freely borrow, mix or complement with your own outfits. Come masked or find a new look on site.
