Night on the Galactic Railroad (Ginga Tetsudō no Yoru, 1985) is an animated film based on the posthumous book by Kenji Miyazawa.

The film follows a lonely boy (or should we say cat) Giovanni who leaves the night festival and together with his friend Campanella boards a train that takes them through the Milky Way, where they encounter various unusual passengers.

The film is primarily intended for children but is equally, if not better, for older audiences. So, if you are interested in a dreamy journey through the stars and heavenly meadows that will leave you in a melancholic meditative state, we invite you to attend the screening of this film at the Black House on March 16 at 8pm.

Kenji Miyazawa was a philosopher and poet whose unique writing style diverged from his time, much like the film in a similar manner. If you look closely, besides feeling lost in mystical landscapes, you may also reconsider your understandings of love, sacrifice, and even the meaning of life.
