Sunday, July 14th

6:00 – 21:00

ALEKSA JOVANOVIĆ, VELIKA GOZBA Gallery, from July 11th to 19th, 2024. Exhibition opening on Thursday, July 11th at 7pm Crisis is, according to contemporary definitions, a temporally limited loss of personal balance that is always preceded by a change in external reality, engaging the level of adaptive powers of the individual beyond their daily control. However, an eating disorder can easily fall outside the scope of this simple definition. Through a series of multimedia works, Aleksa Jovanović not only problematizes eating disorders as clinical conditions but globally examines the human relationship with food in various contexts. Starting from the impossibility of achieving a nutritionally rich diet due to lack of money, self-confidence, self-control, feelings of guilt, social condemnation and discrimination, unwanted 'advice', as well as the ubiquitous stigma surrounding unconventional physical appearance, in this case, excess weight, Jovanović delves deeply into the problematic and toxic nature of industries and the capitalist system.

Aleksa Jovanović, born in 1999 in Petrovac na Mlavi. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade, majoring in painting in the class of Prof. Simonida Rajčević. He was awarded the Faculty of Fine Arts award for evening nude in 2022. So far, he has organized four solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions in the country and abroad.
