Major powers dominate, the small struggle to survive, the nobles fragment the country, some Montenegrins embrace Serb identity, others are losing their Montenegrin identity, and the greatest philosopher among Serbs resembles more a prophet than a poet. Everyone knows Njegoš, everyone refers to him, his verses are more aphorisms than poetry, his poetry is both epic and dramatic, his meter is precise and deadly like Shakespeare's blank verse. Homer is his ancestor and Miljković his descendant. Through him we understand more about our lives and surroundings than from the TV news, Twitter, and Facebook combined. The handsome and tall bishop stands on the hill and sees farther and clearer than both his contemporaries and those of today... Even if we didn't have Hegel or Confucius, nobody but us has Njegoš for everyday use. For every person and every occasion. Ljubiša Ristić
