Miroslav Krleža in "Leda", the third part of his "Glembajevska trilogy", writes about the downfall of a social class, a world without offspring, a society that will self-destruct in self-love and selfishness, like many ancient peoples disappeared in history. On carnival night, when identities are hidden and anything goes, the decadent and empty lives of the heroes come to light, struggling in their own meaninglessness like "butterflies impaled on needles", as Krleža lucidly described them with Krleža's laconic lucidity. While a chain of suicides occurs in the luxurious hotel where they are housed, this false elite engages in trivialities and gossip, on the carousel of low passions and deceit.
