Description
We invite you to Mikhail Maizuls’s lecture, “The Antichrist: A ‘Biography’ of Absolute Evil,” on October 15 at 7:00 p.m.
About the Lecture
“The Son of Perdition,” the embodiment of evil, the enemy of Christ who is to appear in the end times. He has not yet been born, but his “biography” has been known in minute detail since the Middle Ages. His name was used as a curse; political opponents were identified with him; and scenarios of the future built around this terrifying figure influenced how Europeans perceived the outside world and reacted to foreign invasions. How did people in the Middle Ages write the history of the future, and how did the Antichrist—even before he was born—shape diplomatic strategies and, at times, military plans?
Mikhail Maizuls is a medieval historian, Ph.D. in History, and two-time winner of the “Prosvetitel” Award: for the books The Suffering Middle Ages (co-authored with Sergey Zotov and Dilshat Kharman) and The Imaginary Enemy: People of Other Faiths in Medieval Iconography.
