Description

17 September 1857 in the village of Izhevskoye in the Ryazan Governorate, Konstantin Tsiolkovsky was born into the family of a praporshchik (a junior officer) from a Polish noble family and a Russian mother — one of the founding fathers of rocketry and science fiction

About the lecture

Therefore, this Thursday, in honor of the scientist's birthday, a lecture will be held at Sreda obitaniya, where I will recount interesting moments from Tsiolkovsky's biography, show the derivation of his equation and explain why it remains so important for rocketry to this day.

Scientific legacy

The central idea for Tsiolkovsky was the conquest of space, for which he sought philosophical and technical foundations. The result of his work was 148 publications during his lifetime and about 600 manuscripts published after his death.

The Tsiolkovsky Equation

Among all of Tsiolkovsky's works, the most influential and famous became the equation that bears his name — the Tsiolkovsky Equation.

He was not the original discoverer of this equation, but it was he who realized that reactive motion described by this equation could overcome Earth's gravity and allow flight into outer space.
