Lecture: Regions of Serbia - different traditions, cuisine and language

Why do people in one region of Serbia cook certain dishes while in another region they prepare completely different ones? Where do people speak differently than in Belgrade? And how different are the traditions of people living in different parts of the country?

In this lecture we will take a short journey through the regions of Serbia together with Бояна Сабо - a Serbian language teacher and instructor of the course "Culture of Serbia".

We'll talk about

• Vojvodina
• Šumadija
• western Serbia
• eastern Serbia
• southern Serbia

and we will look at how the geography and history of each region have been reflected in its culture.

We'll explore

• what and where people eat
• which local dishes you should know and try
• which traditions have been preserved in different parts of the country
• how Serbian speech can differ depending on where you travel

This lecture is for those who want to know Serbia a little beyond Belgrade — and begin to see, behind a single country, many different places, stories, tastes and traditions.
