"Tin Drum" by Günter Grass, one of the most important novels of the 20th century, a work that pushed the boundaries of literature and inspired the famous film made by Volker Schlöndorff in 1979, tells the saga of Oskar Matzerath, a thirty-year-old patient in a psychiatric institution who, as a three-year-old boy on the eve of the rise of Nazism and the beginning of World War II, decided to stop growing. Protesting against the adults, Oskar comments on historical events from a child's perspective, painting a picture of a world rushing towards self-destruction.
