🫂 Myths about Attachment

Today almost everyone has heard about anxious, avoidant or secure attachment styles. Some see themselves in these descriptions, others start explaining their relationships with them. But much of what is said about attachment on social media today has little to do with how this theory is understood by contemporary researchers.

Why does one person want to talk immediately after an argument, while another shuts down and disappears? Is it true that avoidant people cannot be in relationships? Can you change your attachment style? And is everything really determined by childhood?

In this lecture we will look at what research actually says and what is more of a popular myth.

We'll talk about:

  • 🤩 what the attachment theory actually describes;
  • 🤩 why “anxious” and “avoidant” are not diagnoses or personality types;
  • 🤩 how habitual ways of forming close relationships develop;
  • 🤩 what can change over the course of life and what tends to remain fairly stable.

At this meeting we will discuss how relationships are organized and why we experience closeness, distance and conflicts so differently.
