What can a single folk song tell us?

At the concert Songs Across the Balkans, Andriana Takić and Ulya Volkova (pleurereme) lead you on a musical journey through different regions and traditions of the Balkans.

The program features songs from various cultures of our region, presented in contemporary arrangements and personal interpretation. Although they come from different backgrounds, the songs are linked by the stories they carry — about love, women, the land and everyday life, work, belonging and identity. Many of them are expressed in a simple yet very poetic language.

For this reason, the concert will be a journey not only through music but also through stories. Before each song there will be a few words about its origin and its cultural and historical context — so we can together look behind the melody and hear what the traditional repertoire can tell us about the people who created it, and about us today.

Andriana Takić

Andriana Takić is a singer, guitarist and artistic mentor who works with traditional and world music. In her practice she connects music, travel, the exploration of identity and cultural exchange, approaching traditional songs as living stories that can be re-experienced in a contemporary context. It is especially important to her that the concert is a space for meeting the audience — her performances include storytelling, conversation with the audience, and often communal singing.

Ulya Volkova (pleurereme)

Ulya Volkova (pleurereme) is a cellist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer. After fifteen years of education at the Gnesin School of Music, she developed a broad musical language encompassing acoustic and electronic music, film and theatre music, experimental projects and concert performances across various genres. In Belgrade she actively performs and collaborates with musicians and artists from different scenes.
