Last Songs: Music in Serbia During the Breakup of Yugoslavia
Description
On May 15, the exhibition "Last Songs: Music in Serbia During the Breakup of Yugoslavia" by Laura Emeri and Ivana Miladinović Prica opens at Parobrod. 🎶
- The exhibition features archival research, photographs, little-known documents, and oral histories that tell the story of academic music in Serbia during the breakup of Yugoslavia.
- The focus is on the years leading up to 1991, when the start of the Yugoslav wars abruptly cut short the country's cultural life.
- The authors trace the flowering of the postwar musical avant-garde, the role of Yugoslav cultural figures in international exchange, and their sudden disappearance alongside the state's dissolution.
- A separate section is devoted to artists who, even amid war and chaos, continued to work, using music as a form of resistance.
- The exhibition runs until May 30. 🖼
