Description

ADHD Behind a Mask: Why It Looks Fine from the Outside, but It's Hard for You?

You manage work well, you don't miss meetings, you remember deadlines and give the impression of someone who has everything under control. But how much energy does it take to keep all of that together?

Sometimes constant tension hides behind organization. A person may check their work several times, fear forgetting an important meeting, try not to interrupt others and carefully control their behavior. Those around them may not even suspect how much effort it takes to cope with everyday tasks. This tendency to hide difficulties is called masking. But why do people with ADHD start to mask their traits? How is this connected to anxiety, shame and fear of judgment? And what can you do if constant self-control starts to exhaust you?

In the lecture we will discuss:

  • How masking manifests in adults with ADHD and why it isn't always easy to notice
  • Why someone might hide their difficulties for years, even from themselves
  • How constant self-control is linked to anxiety, self-criticism and fear of negative evaluation
  • How manifestations of ADHD differ from symptoms of anxiety disorders and other conditions
  • Which approaches in psychiatry and psychotherapy help manage difficulties and reduce tension

We will talk about why external success doesn't always mean things come easily, and how to find ways to handle everyday tasks without an endless struggle with yourself.
