Dreams, love and the magic of movement at Madlenianum

Madlenianum Opera and Theatre, in cooperation with the Institute for Artistic Dance, invites lovers of ballet and contemporary dance to a special ballet evening, “Dreams Behind the Masks,” to be held on Wednesday, November 11, starting at 7:30 PM, on the Main Stage of the theatre.

The audience will have the chance to see a diptych — “Dreams” and “Masquerade” — performed by students of the Institute for Artistic Dance and students from ballet schools in Belgrade and Pančevo.

This evening will be more than an encounter with ballet. It will be a meeting with young talents who, through movement, music, and stage energy, speak about the deepest human emotions — dreams, fears, perseverance, longing, and love. After the performances, a conversation with the dancers will be held, giving students the opportunity to meet the young artists up close, discover their work and dedication, and the path that leads from the first ballet step to the grand stage.

“Dreams” — the courage to believe in the impossible

The piece “Dreams,” choreographed by Alex Cross, brings a powerful, universal story about human aspirations, the courage to dream, and the perseverance needed to make those dreams come true. Through a contemporary dance vocabulary, the audience follows an emotional journey filled with hope, challenges, fears, and the inner strength that guides an individual toward achieving their goals. “Dreams” explores the space between desire and reality, between imagination and fulfillment, sending a strong message that with dedication, focus, and self-belief, the impossible can become possible.

“Masquerade” — when one glance changes everything

The ballet “Masquerade,” choreographed by Aleksandar Ilić, offers a poetic tale of longing and the birth of love, told through a dance of attraction and distance. At the heart of the stage events are young people — their glances, approaches, and doubts. One young man becomes the center of attention and sets off a chain of emotions in an atmosphere of night and light — a world in which a single look can mean everything, and one step can change the course of fate. The final waltz by Aram Khachaturian brings the culmination in a lavish onstage whirlwind. Here the neoclassical idiom reaches its full radiance, uniting the technical precision of classical ballet with the power of a contemporary stage language.

Madlenianum Opera and Theatre’s ballet repertoire is designed to bring the art of dance — one of the most elevated art forms — closer to the audience.

Ballet unites music, movement, stage imagery, and emotion into a unique expression that transcends all linguistic and cultural barriers.
