Thermenvox, 1920s Avant-Garde Cinema, and a Lecture on the Rooftop with a View of Belgrade
About the Event
On September 23 at t.me/art_terasa, we’ll talk about Lev Termen, the inventor, musician, and our very own Russian Nikola Tesla.
He created the Theremin and the electric cello, worked on a prototype television, security systems for Alcatraz, spy devices for Soviet intelligence, and a whole host of other fascinating inventions.
Then we’ll watch films by the French director Man Ray: “Return to Reason” (1923) and “The Secrets of the Dice Castle” (1929).
We’ll immerse ourselves in surrealism, Dadaism, and experiments with imagery.
During the screening, musicians will create a live soundscape on the theremin and electric cello.
And at the end of the evening, everyone will have the chance to try playing their own musical improvisation on the theremin!
