THREE SISTERS
A general play of Russian literature, theater, and civilization, Three Sisters by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov was premiered on New Year's Eve directed by Ljubisa Ristic. The girls longing for Moscow and the officers who leave them and go to the front are a fateful constant of Chekhov's and every Russia. Therefore, at KPGT, the first act of Three Sisters is in vaudeville from tsarist Russia in the spring of 1901; the second act is, like Chekhov's, during Shrovetide, under white and red masks in the chaos of the Civil War in 1921; in the third act, we find Three Sisters in the fire of the Nazi West's attack on the Soviet Union in 1941; in the fourth act, the officers leave the city and the Three Sisters leave for Ukraine in 2022. The farewell is on social networks. The fifth act? Uncertain. Even Chekhov did not write it. Just as HAMLET is a general piece of world theater, and SUSPICIOUS CHARACTER is a general piece of our theater, so are THREE SISTERS a general guide of A.P. Chekhov for understanding Russian life, destiny, and myth.
