Veliki PAD Peter Handke70'
VELIKI PAD is the sixth of seven titles by Peter Handke that KPGT has been presenting for 25 years. KASPAR, THE HORROR OF EMPTINESS, WINTER JOURNEY TO THE RIVERS DANUBE, SAVA, DRINA AND MORAVA, KAS OVER LAKE BODENSEE, CURSING OF THE AUDIENCE and DON JUAN are the dramas, novels, and essays that KPGT has been performing since the nineties, counting on Handke as its house writer, whom they have played the most and most frequently, alongside Shakespeare, Molière, Dušan Jovanović, Haner Miller, and Danilo Kiš. VELIKI PAD is a novel about the Nobel Prize that Peter Handke wrote eight years before he received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2019. Its 'hero' is an 'old actor' who is not sure whether he should accept the lifetime achievement award or not. Walking through meadows, bushes, and forests to the concrete jungle, hesitating, he compiles a Handkean inventory of people, sounds, insects, birds, sadness, and despair, a report on the state of the world as the writer's autobiography, for whom the greatest recognition is the greatest downfall in the world he reports on. VELIKI PAD is a play that is a drama, but also a ballet, but mostly a rave. The ballet dances to the music of rain, wind, highways, crickets, and the concrete jungle. Hundreds of passersby walk, run, fly, and float over the techno-meadow and through the techno-forest, disappearing into the techno-abyss.
