Description
⚡️Talk with Maxim Kurnikov and presentation of the book 'The Accidental Tsar'
How did a low-profile mid-level KGB officer become the leader of Russia? And how was an image of a strong, infallible ruler built around him?
On 29 October in Belgrade journalist and translator Maxim Kurnikov will present the graphic novel by Andrew Weiss and Brian Brown, The Accidental Tsar. The Life and Lies of Vladimir Putin.
The book tells the story of Vladimir Putin’s rise to power and how his public image was constructed. The authors invite readers to look beyond common assumptions about the Russian leader and to examine which people, circumstances, and decisions helped him move from a security service officer to an authoritarian ruler.
Maxim Kurnikov is a journalist and one of the translators of the Russian edition. Together we will talk about how the power system around Putin is organized, how the image of a “strong leader” is formed, and what a graphic novel can reveal about contemporary Russian history.
The presentation will be held in Russian
