The Royal Household is hiring again, and this time no experience is required. According to the job description that's been making the rounds on social media, the palace needs someone to get Buckingham Palace's rooms ready for receptions: setting up furniture for events of up to 200 guests, carrying carpets and carefully moving antiques. The ad doesn't name a salary, just calls it "competitive".
In short: an official job working for King Charles III, life in a palace and a workout you get paid for instead of paying for.
What staff get
Royal Household jobs usually come with similar perks:
- free lunch for all staff
- for some roles, the option to live in the palace (not for free: part of the salary goes toward accommodation)
- pension contributions and annual leave that grows with length of service
What it pays
This ad doesn't give a figure, but for reference: in late summer 2026 the palace was hiring a kitchen porter, also with no experience required, at a starting salary of £30,840 a year. Staff who chose to live in had 16.7% deducted from their pay - about £5,150 a year.
It's not an easy job, either: usually up to 45 hours a week, shifts on any five days out of seven, weekends included, and sometimes travel to other royal residences.
