Exhibition "Jovan Kratochvil. Composition 100/24"

The National Museum of Serbia features a retrospective exhibition of Jovan Kratochvil (1924-1998) in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the artist's birth. This exhibition presents a comprehensive view of his rich and diverse artistic oeuvre for the first time, spanning from the 1940s to the 1980s. The exhibition showcases his most significant works from different creative phases, highlighting his artistic journey from partisan art and socialist realism to abstract expression within socialist aesthetics and modernism, as well as pioneering sculptures made of transparent polyester. The curator, Lidija Ham Milovanović, has carefully selected 100 exhibits, predominantly sculptures, along with Kratochvil's paintings, graphics, drawings, and documentary materials on public monuments. The exhibition, titled "Jovan Kratochvil - Composition 100/24," draws from the artist's practice of naming his works compositions with a consecutive number and year of creation. The selected pieces are mostly from the Kratochvil family collection, supplemented by works from various museums and galleries. This exhibition offers a new spatial composition in alignment with the artist's approach.
