Crises, by contemporary definitions, are a temporary loss of personal balance preceded by a change in external reality, engaging the level of an individual's adaptive capabilities beyond their everyday control. However, eating disorders can easily fall outside the scope of this simple definition. Through a series of multimedia works, Aleksa Jovanović not only problematizes eating disorders as clinical conditions but globally questions the human relationship with and towards food in different contexts. Starting from the impossibility of achieving a nutritionally rich diet due to lack of money, self-confidence and self-control, feelings of guilt, social condemnation and discrimination, unwanted “advice,” as well as the pervasive stigma surrounding unconventional physical appearance, in this case excess weight, Jovanović delves deeply into the problematic and toxic nature of industries and capitalist systems.

Aleksa Jovanović, born in 1999 in Petrovac na Mlavi. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade, majoring in painting in the class of Prof. Simonida Rajčević. He is the recipient of the Faculty of Fine Arts award for evening nude 2022. So far, he has organized four solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions in the country and abroad. He lives and works in Belgrade.
