Teodore Nikolić: 43 Sunsets

Dom Omladine, Makedonska 22, Belgrade
12 July 2024, Friday
14:00 – 23:00
Serbian

Description

"One day I saw the sun set forty-three times! ...you know, when you are very sad, you love sunsets." – "The Little Prince" A. De Saint-Exupéry

The concept of the exhibition "43 Sunsets" is based on creating a space of personal solace. The search for security and its fulfillment is manifested in abstract spaces of geometrized forms. The project's name comes from the aforementioned quote from the literary work "The Little Prince".

The initial idea of the author, Teodore Nikolić, is to create a unique world - a planet, a space. It is a space where limitations do not exist. The places represented in this series of paintings are depicted through geometrically clean colored forms, rooted in classical Euclidean space. They are devoid of human presence and act independently on the viewer. Scenes, like frames of a familiar world, with their architectural elements, seek to isolate the individual from everyday external pressures and uncertainties, while the spatial installation provides physical contact with the non-physical world depicted on the canvases.

Teodora Nikolić was born in 1998 in Belgrade. She is a doctoral academic studies student at the Faculty of Applied Arts, University of Arts in Belgrade, in the Department of Applied Arts and Design, under the mentorship of Dr. Tijana Kojić. She completed her undergraduate and master's studies at the same faculty in the Department of Applied Painting.

She is a recipient of the "Dositej" scholarship from the Fund for Young Talents, for her undergraduate and master's studies. In 2024, she obtained the title of research associate at the Faculty of Applied Arts. She is a regular member of the painting section of ULUS and the painting and graphic section of ULUPUDS. She is actively engaged in visual arts and has held four solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions.
