Exhibition 'City Space - Nature Space'

The exhibition 'City Space - Nature Space' showcases the protected areas of Belgrade, selected specimens of dendroflora, natural monuments, and landscapes of exceptional characteristics interpreted in the form of video works, photographs, and texts, as well as an eco-figure made from secondary raw materials on the theme of protected animal species inhabiting the space of our capital city.

The city and nature intertwine and permeate. In addition to the ecological significance that is most commonly recognized, the natural values of special characteristics in the composition of the urban landscape are inseparable from the urban, historical, and cultural toponyms. The development of urban space represents the conquest of natural space, while the preservation of natural resources is simultaneously a necessary condition for survival. The modern inhabitant of urban space forgets the inherent connection with the natural environment, a totality without which they themselves lose their natural, human figure, thus neglecting one of the essential needs of human beings to be in a permanent communication and touch with nature.

Through the exhibition 'City Space - Nature Space,' the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia approaches the audience through multi-layered meanings of living monuments of Belgrade, as witnesses of the past with which we are connected through history, memories, memorials, traditions, and myths. The exhibition aims to introduce the public to protected areas - the green oases of Belgrade, selected specimens of protected dendroflora, and animal species of Belgrade in the context of conservation, valorization, and interpretation of the natural heritage of the urban space.
