Johan Strauss Fest
Description
The Johan Strauss Fest is held in memory of the famous Austrian composer, conductor, and violinist, Johann Strauss II, who held his first concert in Novi Sad back in 1847. Strauss came to Novi Sad at the age of 22 and took with him several memories from our city that he turned into masterpieces. He composed 'Remembering Novi Sad' ('Erinnerung an Neusatz'), a fantasy piece inspired by Serbian folk motifs. Unfortunately, this composition is lost and no copies have been preserved. The most popular composition 'The Blue Danube', according to legend, was created when Strauss was a guest at Count Kotec's castles in Futog and Sremska Kamenica. The notes were most likely written in Futog, while the composer watched the Danube and the Srem side. After Novi Sad, he continued his tour in Romania and Russia, and shortly thereafter in America.
