Sword Through the Ages at the Ethnographic Museum

Етнографски музеј, Belgrade
16 July 2024, Tuesday
12:00 – 22:00
Serbian

Description

The museum is pleased to announce the guest exhibition 'Sword' by author Alexander Stankovic, a teacher, historian, and theoretician of classical, sports, and stage fencing, which will be open to all lovers and enthusiasts of this most elegant martial art on Tuesday, June 18th at 8:00 PM.
The exhibition includes a rich collection of over 50 swords through the ages, from antiquity through the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, to modern times, and the exhibited items, mostly replicas, are enriched with authentic pieces of yataghans and sabers from the Museum's collection of Weapons and Warrior Equipment representing the sword culture of Serbia and the Balkans.

During the exhibition, there will be guided tours, workshops, and interactive lectures on the theory of the sword and the history of fencing in Serbia and Belgrade from the Middle Ages to the mid-20th century, and we especially announce a small competition 'Sword in Stone' for our youngest visitors.

With a welcome speech from the director of the Ethnographic Museum Marko Krstic, the exhibition will be opened by the author Alexander Stankovic and the curator of the collection of Weapons and Warrior Equipment of the Ethnographic Museum Ivan Maximovic.

The exhibition will be open to visitors until October. The ticket price is 400 dinars.
