Actor Ognjen Mićović opens the 13th Bašta Fest

Well-known young actor Ognjen Mićović will ceremonially open the thirteenth edition of Bašta Fest on July 2, while on the festival closing night on July 5 the audience will be able to see the award-winning film Yugo Florida by Vladimir Tagić.

The international festival of short fiction films Bašta Fest is being held this year in Bajina Bašta under the slogan "Knock on wood", bringing local audiences the premieres of numerous domestic and international works. In Borići Park, 26 short films will be screened, and actor Ognjen Mićović will introduce audiences to this year’s film gatherings by officially opening the festival.

Mićović has played a number of roles on small screens, and last year he was noted for his role as Luka Baša in the acclaimed series Tvrđava. He also had a prominent film role in Čuvari formule: Lančana reakcija by Dragan Bjelogrlić. Inviting him to open Bašta Fest continues the festival’s tradition of entrusting this honorary role to a young actor or actress who has marked the past year with their talent.

"Bašta Fest, as a young festival, patiently, carefully and thoughtfully builds, refines and improves its taste when it comes to film selection, and for years now it has really stood as a quality reference point for all film connoisseurs across the region," said Mićović, who visited the festival for the first time in 2022.

Two years later, as part of the main program, the film Bull’s Eye by Petar Lakić was shown, in which Mićović played one of the leading roles. "I love the films at Bašta, I remember some very well. Bašta Fest is a real boost for young authors and that is what I value most about it. I am overjoyed to have the honor of opening the festival this year."

"Jokes aside, I love Bašta Fest, I love Bajina Bašta. I always have a great time and am reminded how important it is to nurture the spirit of youth and love of film. I am happy that our film closes the festival and I am eagerly awaiting the audience’s reactions."

As part of the main program, audiences will have the opportunity to watch short films from as many as twenty-four countries under the open sky. Three of those works will have their world premieres at Bašta Fest, while nineteen films will be shown in Serbia for the first time, right here in Bajina Bašta.

All short films compete for the main jury awards, which will present the Golden Imagination award for best film, the Golden Interpretation awards for best male and female performance, as well as two special prizes. In addition, there is an award for the best film from the Youth Jury, and a regional award for best cinematography, Golden Visualization, awarded in cooperation with rental Cineplanet by a specialized professional jury.

Besides the free main film program, which consists of 26 works from around the world, Bašta Fest visitors can also expect a varied educational program and an accompanying music program.
