Actor Ognjen Mićović opens the 13th Bašta Fest
Famous young actor Ognjen Mićović will officially open the thirteenth edition of Bašta Fest on July 2, while at the festival closing on July 5 the audience will be able to see the award-winning film Yugo Florida by Vladimir Tagić.
The international short fiction film festival Bašta Fest this year takes place in Bajina Bašta under the slogan "Knock on wood", bringing local audiences premieres of numerous domestic and international works. In the Borići park 26 short films will be screened, and actor Ognjen Mićović will introduce audiences to this year’s film gatherings as he officially opens the festival.
Mićović has had a number of roles on the small screen, and last year he stood out for his role as Luka Baša in the acclaimed series Tvrđava. He also had a notable film role in Čuvari formule: Lančana reakcija by Dragan Bjelogrlić. Inviting him to open Bašta Fest continues the tradition of entrusting this honorary role to a young actor or actress who has distinguished themselves with talent over the past year.
“Bašta Fest, as a young festival, patiently, carefully and thoughtfully builds, refines and advances its taste when it comes to film selection and for many years now has truly stood as a quality reference point for film connoisseurs across the region,” said Mićović, who first visited the festival in 2022.
Two years later, as part of the main program, Bull’s Eye by Petar Lakić was also screened, in which Mićović played one of the lead roles. “I love the films from Bašta, I remember some of them very well. Bašta Fest is a real wind at the back for young creators and that is what I appreciate most about it. I’m overjoyed to have the honor to open the festival this year.”
“Jokes aside, I love Bašta Fest, I love Bajina Bašta. Every time I have a great time and am reminded how important it is to nurture the spirit of youth and the love of film. I’m happy that our film closes the festival and I’m eagerly awaiting the audience’s reactions.”
As part of the main program, audiences will have the opportunity to watch short films from as many as twenty-four countries outdoors. Three of those works will have their world premiere at Bašta Fest, while nineteen films will be screened in Serbia for the first time in Bajina Bašta.
All short films compete for the main jury awards, which will present the Golden Imagination (Zlatna imaginacija) award for best film, the Golden Interpretation (Zlatna interpretacija) awards for best male and female performance, as well as two special awards. In addition, there is an award for the best film chosen by the Youth Jury, and a regional award for best cinematography — Golden Visualization (Zlatna vizualizacija) — in cooperation with the rental company Cineplanet, which is awarded by an individual professional jury.
Besides the free main film program, which includes 26 works from around the world, Bašta Fest visitors can also look forward to a varied educational program as well as accompanying musical events.
