Exhibition “Confessions of Yugoslav Modernism”
Description
Artworks on paper from the Collection of the Gallery of the House of the Military of Serbia consist of around 1,500 pieces of fine and applied arts and can be divided into four parts: Collection of paintings, Collection of works on paper, Collection of sculptures, and Collection of applied arts. Works on paper, after paintings, are the most numerous segment of the fund. The collection was formed based on artists' participation in engaged exhibitions organized by the Gallery of the House of the Yugoslav National Army, solo exhibitions, participation in colonies, and serving military service. The works were created over a period of a century, so it can be said that the Collection covers almost the entire 20th century. Thematically diverse, from those with the theme of still lifes, portraits, exteriors, interiors without ideological background, to highly engaged works on the theme of the People's Liberation Struggle and war.
Over 40 works presented at the exhibition are works on paper in drawing, watercolor, pastel, gouache, tempera techniques, and works executed in a combined technique. Among the protagonists of the exhibition are some of the most significant artists of the 20th century in the Yugoslav area – Ljubomir Ljuba Ivanović, Sava Šumanović, Stojan Ćelić, Predrag Peđa Milosavljević, Mladen Srbinović, Milo Milunović, Gabrijel Stupica, Nikola Martinoski, Zlatko Prica, and others.
