Description

What Is Actually Real in the World of Harry Potter?

Let's look at the familiar universe through the lens of philosophy and examine which difficult questions lie behind magic, Dementors, and Horcruxes. Can one exist without a soul? What makes a person human? And why can what happens in our minds also be real?

In the lecture on the philosophy of consciousness, the soul, and the nature of reality we'll discuss:

  • 😍 What happens to a person after a Dementor's kiss and why this is a philosophical problem
  • 😍 What Horcruxes, ghosts, and Inferi tell us about the nature of the soul and personal identity
  • 😍 How thoughts, emotions, and intentions become magic — from the Patronus to the Room of Requirement
  • 😍 Why boggarts and the Mirror of Erised make us rethink the boundary between the subjective and the objective
  • 😍 Why the attempt to conquer death may turn out to be more terrifying than death itself

No philosophical background required. Just curiosity and a desire to see a familiar story in a new light.

The lecture is led by Ksenia Aniskovich — a brand strategist and a researcher of meanings, concepts, and metaphors. She works at the intersection of strategy, philosophy, psychology, culture, and communications. She investigates how language, imagery, and metaphors shape our perception of reality.
