Exhibition 'Great Feast' by Aleksa Jovanović

The crisis is, by contemporary definitions, a temporally limited loss of balance of the personality that always precedes a change in external reality, engaging that level of individual adaptive powers which is beyond its daily control. However, an eating disorder can easily fall out of the scope of this simple definition. Through a series of multimedia works, Aleksa Jovanović not only problematizes eating disorders as clinical conditions but globally questions the human relationship with food and towards food in different contexts. Starting from the impossibility of achieving a nutritionally rich diet due to lack of money, self-confidence, self-control, feelings of guilt, social condemnation and discrimination, unwanted 'advice,' as well as the ubiquitous stigma surrounding unconventional physical appearance, in this case, excess weight, Jovanović delves deeply into the problematic and toxic nature of industries and capitalist systems.
Aleksa Jovanović, born in 1999 in Petrovac na Mlavi. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade, Department of Painting in the class of Prof. Simonida Rajčević. He is the recipient of the Faculty of Fine Arts award for an evening nude in 2022. He has organized four solo exhibitions so far and participated in numerous group exhibitions in the country and abroad. He lives and works in Belgrade.
