GENETICS WITHOUT MYTHS: LECTURE SERIES
If genetically identical people can differ in character, habits and even susceptibility to certain diseases, does that mean DNA does not determine everything? And how do cells with the same set of genes “know” that one will become a neuron and another a liver cell?
On 29 June we invite you to the second lecture of the “Genetics Without Myths” series — “What is a phenotype and the transcriptome, or why identical twins are still different.”
We'll discuss how hereditary information turns into concrete traits, what happens between DNA and proteins, why genotype is not destiny, and the role of environment and epigenetics in our lives.
We'll explore why identical genes don't guarantee identical lives, how cells “choose” their future role, and why the genotype can be compared to a cookbook while proteins are the finished dishes.
